What Did the Birds Say?

In the early mornings at The Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary the permanent residents waken the forest.  The beautiful noises theses wild birds made filled the sanctuary. The sanctuary for the birds was built around its existing trees which saved the lives of the hundred-year-old trees.  It also gave the sanctuary a more natural forest look, not as if these beautiful creatures were sitting in cages at a zoo.  All of the wild birds in The Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary are permanent residents mainly because of severe injuries they receives from being hit by cars.  Although all the birds in there filled my heart with joy, there were two birds in particular that caught my eye!

I introduce you to this little guy named Fred, the Yellow-Naped Amazon.  Fred is a green parrot which of course are known for their incredible intelligence on mimicking other sound or spoken words.  He seem to not be able to fly due to an injury to his wings.  When I first arrived to bird sanctuary, Fred was still quite sleepy and wasn't talking as much, but then again I'm not a morning person either.  Later on in my visit, I revisited Fred and we had a long conversation.  I asked him if he were tired earlier and how his day started, but all I got back was a bunch of huh's and whats.

There was another little guy that my little eye spied on, and his name is Flop!  This gorgeous Blue Jay was found to be one of the most energetic birds and the most shocking of them all!  Dear old Flop, the wild bird Blue Jay use to be a house bird dependent on humans.  Being that he has never been exposed to the wild, Flop had to be sent to live in the Sanctuary.  There he will be fed regularly everyday, get mani-pedi and the rest of the top notch spa treatment   Flop is one of my favorites because he is a bird that meows!  He learned from his previous owner's cat and used his mimicry intelligence to recreate that sound. AMAZING!  I had to just get it on video.  First, birds meow, so what's next?  Will cats learn to bark?  *Sings* "What did the bird say?"

Please, if you get a chance take a look at the Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary website and feel free to donate.  Donating will help keep these birds a great home and fulfill their needs. http://www.keepthemflying.org/sanctuary/

  1. You had such a bond with those two birds..it's incredible to look and them and feel them looking back at you, just as curious. We also saw a strangler fig/ banyan tree here, they are true to name and grow on other trees. There was somebody working on a new encasement, I'm curious what will inhabit it.
