Food For Thought: What to Expect

We ate some absolutely wonderful food on this trip. From the ice cream to the burgers to the fast food, we had some good eats throughout the week. Here were some of the class’s favorite places to eat:

1. The Farmer's Market: This little restaurant was one of my favorites. The people who worked there were exceptionally nice, vey sweet, and even had a little humor in them.  Here, we all tried gator bites, which are like alligator chicken fingers. a few of us, including me, were hesitant about trying them, but they did not disappoint.
2. The Cafe: This joint in Key West was very healthy compared to all of the other restaurants.  It was a small area with beautiful artwork everywhere. And the food did not disappoint; it was vegetarian / pescetarian (fish meat only), and they gave decent sized portions.

3. Jersey Boardwalk Pizza: Although some of us, including me, were too seasick for this trip, we got take out from here while rest of the class was there. What I got, the penne with marinara, was very good. And the garlic bread along with it was very good. When people came back to their rooms, they mentioned that the restaurant was very nice and they all also enjoyed their food. I wish I was able to go with them.

4. Jaxson’s Ice Cream: A top favorite amongst group one. Be careful, the portions of all meals here are ginormous and you will most likely not be able to finish your meal. And make sure you save room for ice cream! Their homemade ice cream comes with many amazing toppings. It is very hard to pick your flavors!

5. Pollo Tropical: A fast food restaurant, this is almost like a Chipotle, but, in my opinion, better. They had many options, and their Tropichop was amazing. Everyone was satisfied with the chicken at this restaurant.

6. Alabama Jack’s: This was my favorite restaurant for sever reasons. Firstly, it had a great view into the water, where you could see fish, birds, and mangroves. Secondly, the food was amazing. They had conch fritters which were an amazing appetizer. If I had to describe them, they kind of tasted like crab cakes, but somehow better. Thirdly, for those over 21, they had great alcohol. A few of us got a rum drink and it was delectable and very strong.

Helpful tip: If you are having lunch at one of these places and you will be on a boat afterwards, don't eat anything too exotic and don't eat too much. You may regret it!

  1. The food really was amazing but definitely beware of the portions! I had a hard time finishing a lot of my meals and kept bringing back leftovers. My favorite was Jaxson's great food and ice cream. I loved the vibe of Robbie's and Alabama Jack's. They were both right on the water and had an awesome view! Nice review of the restaurants Jessie!

  2. we were all excited about going to Jaxson's today but because of bad weather with a nasty storm, our shark tagging got cut short and we had to go in around 3:50 pm and the class wanted to stay but because it was so early we ended up going back close to the hotel and ate at a Mexican restaurant. It was good but we were all excited about Jaxson's because of this post.
