Little Sleep, Some Coffee and Lots of Fun

One moment, I’m peacefully sleeping at 4 in the morning on June 1st 2016 and in an instant, after an insignificant 5 hours of sleep, my alarm begins to repeatedly blare in my ear. I guess it wasn’t the smartest idea to wait until the night before to pack for the entire trip.  Regardless of how much I wanted to press snooze, I jumped out of bed because today is the day I get to fly down to Florida. Trudging my feet behind me as I slowly walk down the steps until I snag a cup of coffee to keep me going throughout the day and head out the front door and mentally prepare myself for what is about to be the most amazing week ever. On the outside I may look tired but on the inside I swear I really am excited.

We left my house at 5 in the morning and arrived at the airport by 5:30. We flew through Spirit airlines. Since I purchased my baggage ahead of time, checking in for the flight was really easy. All I had to do was drop off my bag and head through security. The security line was pretty long but it went by quickly enough for me to have just enough to grab breakfast on the way to the gate for boarding. I had a pork roll egg and cheese sandwich which helped hold me over for the flight. The actual flight was fairly quick and it helped that I slept most of the time we were in the air.

The landing went smoothly and we finally arrived in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Personally, Florida is a home to me and I can’t wait to spend the next week exploring places that I have never been before. Not to mention that the Florida Keys is a little slice of paradise. The weather is beautiful and it may be humid but I absolutely love it and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of this experience. It will give me a chance to meet new people and make friends with people who have similar interests as me in marine biology.

  1. I'm so glad our flight wasn't delayed and that we all made it on time! I do wish my fins didn't take up so much space in my suitcase. I definitely didn't pack everything I had intended!

  2. I have to say, the flight was not bad at all, especially when I was sitting next to a chihuahua that was a service dog. I had never experienced that before. I definitely did not pack enough stuff from home, and I definitely left a few articles of clothing on accident at home.

  3. Even though the flight was only 2 hours it moved kinda quick. I know sleep is really hard to come by on this trip but we are all getting through it! The packing was difficult but hey, at least we get to do laundry today! The adventures while being here so far have been great and I can't wait to explore more before our hike back to NJ.
