Fauna Freak Out

Traveling to different regions you may have culture shock with how things are done in those areas. I traveled from New Jersey to Florida and didn’t find too much of a culture shock but what did shake me was the vast difference in fauna that Florida has compared to just up the coast a couple hours away by plane. Within the first couple of minutes leaving the airport it was apparent that we were in a completely different ecosystem than  what I was used to. Palm trees everywhere and bright orange colors in the middle of summer shining from the Royal Poinciana's. If you'd like to read more about this beautiful plant click here. Back up north our colors usually shine through during the fall but a nice treat to see it in the summer.

Another thing that set me back was the abundance of reptiles in the area we are visiting. Just walking to the corner store we saw several species of reptiles. I believe we some anoles, geckos, and even a red headed rock agama. The warm climate is allowing them all to bask out and run around. Back up north our reptiles are far and few between. You'd have a hard time finding them, they like to stay still and conserve energy with our colder climate. Some cool facts about the agama can be found here.
