Top Spots Throughout the Week

Throughout this trip, we got to check out so many different places from parks to beaches to restaurants. For this last blog, I want to point out a couple of my favorite spots that we visited during week 1.

My number one favorite place that we went to was Crane Point Hammock State Park in Marathon, Florida. This was such a cool place to visit with so many things to see.

After doing service work at the park we had time to do some exploring. During this time we got fish pedicures, went snorkeling, saw dolphins, went kayaking, and got to check out some cool wildlife and rescued birds at the park’s small sanctuary. There is so much more to do at this beautiful park such as camping or fishing and I would love to go back to explore it even more. I would recommend this place to anybody!

My next favorite place was Everglades National Park, a place I have always wanted to visit. Although we only walked a couple of different trails, I loved every second of it. We saw some pretty awesome creatures such as alligators, lubbers, and a softshell turtle. It was a really beautiful place and I will definitely be going back to explore more of what it has to offer.

As for the rest, it is hard to even list them in order of favorites because we went to so many cool places. The next few would probably include Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, Bahia Honda State Park, and Captain Slate’s snorkeling/diving trip (even though I was pretty seasick the whole time).

Another thing that I could touch on discussing favorite places is some of the awesome food that we got to eat. I am usually a picky eater so a few of the places we ate at were definitely out of my comfort zone, but it was all so good. My favorite restaurant that we went to was probably Jaxson’s. This place had amazing food and even better ice cream such as this sundae that three of us barely made a dent in because it was so big.

Overall, this week featured so many amazing places I feel like I could talk about them forever, and there is still so much to explore. I would recommend the places mentioned in this post to anybody visiting Florida and I definitely want to go back!

  1. Hi Amanda,

I had always wanted to go see the Everglades too, and was super excited when I found out that that was part of what we were doing when we went down to the Keys for the field experience part of the class. Seeing the alligator up close like we did was super exciting, even if it was a little bit terrifying as well. I can also second being a picky eater, but being forced to try new things is probably a good thing for me, because that is the only way I'm going to do it. Jaxson's was definitely my favorite place as well, even though we couldn't make it through that giant sundae. I'm hoping to go back down to the Keys one day too, to explore the places we went more, as well as find new places I haven't seen yet.
