1. Use
a dry snorkel
Although they may be more expensive,
dry snorkels are much more efficient equipment for new snorkelers. While you
are getting used to this activity, being able to clear water from your snorkeling
tube can be tricky. With the dry snorkel, there is a float valve that will
prevent water from entering the tube whenever you are completely under water.

2. Be
kind to wildlife! Do not touch anything you see
While it may be tempting, touching any
of the wildlife that you see while under the water could be dangerous to you,
as well as the critter. Coral reefs can easily be destroyed by mindless
snorkelers and divers. Also, they could cause you harm by creating an itch or
burn if you handle them. This also goes for any other life out there, especially
the particularly spikey ones.

3. Know
your surroundings and make sure your fins are a good fit
Some people may not think about it
too much, but if your fins are too tight or too loose, they could either fall off
your foot, or make your swim very uncomfortable. This is extremely important for
new snorkelers, because having the perfect fin can make all the difference in your
experience. Also, if you are snorkeling around corals, having shorter fins ensures
that no accidents occur, like kicking down corals. They have enough stress of
their own to deal with!
4. Always
snorkel with a buddy
In case of any emergencies or
accidents, having a buddy with you will ensure that you are as safe as possible.
Not only is it nice to have someone to share this experience with, but there is
also a level of comfort that comes with having other people by your side.

5. Do
not wear shiny jewelry!!
Save the fancy wear for the fancy
dinners! The jewelry that you wear can reflect light and be deceiving to other
wild life. If you do not want to be mistaken for a tasty fish by another hungry
creature, leave the jewelry on land.
