My first time in the ocean! June
14th of 2019 a day that will mark a change in my life and the way I
see the ocean. I always used to see the ocean as place that was not made for me
and many scary things lived in there. Being that said, taking this class was hard
for me and I knew that it will be a challenge that I would need to overcome.
Friday 14th was the
day that I got to face my biggest fear. I was very nervous and anxious about
what was going to happen at the ocean in Fort Lauderdale. Surprisingly the
ocean that day was very calm and very clear that I was able to see everything
underneath. The big moment came, and I started to feel a weird sensation in my
stomach, Dr. Z. kind of knew that I was scared so she told me to not be scared
and that she was going to be there for me and that nothing will happen to me. When
I went into the ocean, I can say that it was the best experience and I enjoyed
it so much that I asked myself why I never did that before.
Saturday 15th, my
second time in the ocean, this time in Tavernier. I was not too sure what was
coming this time but expecting that it will be amazing like the first time.
Unfortunately, this time the ocean was moving a lot and I did not have Dr. Z.
next to me. So again, I was afraid but ready to overcome that fear. While I was
holding from the line trying to see the fish on the reef, Christina came to me
and asked me if I wanted to go with her towards the end of the line, so that
gave me the support that I needed to have confidence again. I saw many fish and
the reef, this was a once in a life time experience.
Later that same day we went
kayaking which was another thing that I never did before. Christina was on the
kayak with me, so she helped me a lot, from guiding me how to use the paddles
to tell me to not be scared and making me feel confident. We saw crabs, a
snake, manatees, and an Iguana. Once again leaving me that sensation of
accomplishment that money can’t buy,
and I am very thankful that I was able to experience it.
PS: thanks to everyone in this group that has tried to help me lose my fear of going in the Ocean, especially Christina and Dr. Z. I really appreciate your help.

This story was so cute!!! I am so happy that you faced your fear, tried something new, and fell in love. It is good that you know that the ocean can be unsafe for us little swimming, air breathing humans if the conditions aren't right, and it is good to listen to your heart and remain at your comfort level. It was so nice that Dr. Z and Christina helped you swim out of your comfort zone!
