Toto Were Not in Jersey Anymore….
Scene its 4:45 am I wake
up at the beautiful sunrise bay apartments and get ready to head for the Atlantic
City Airport. Passing Stockton University I briefly contemplate the amazing opportunities
this school has provided for me. Getting dropped off and meeting up with my
classmates as we embark on our journey to South Florida for the trip of a
lifetime. At the gate we grabbed some snacks for our travels and got ready for
the adventure ahead of us. We flew spirit airlines into Fort Lauderdale Florida
and on the way in our flight was rerouted due to heavy air traffic from
construction at the airport preventing us from landing. This gave us a delay
which wasn’t too big of a deal. The flight in general was really good, myself
and Nicole were able to move seats to get more leg room and space to be able to
get some sleep on the two and a half hour flight. Once we landed in the Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood
Airport we all made our way down to the baggage claim to meet up with Dr. Z and
take in what we are getting ourselves into this week.
Making our
way to the Stockton University van we really started on our way to take the two-
hour drive to Florida City where we are staying to drop our bags off in our teaching
assistant’s room before we could check into our actual rooms. We went to lunch
at this cute café/dinner owner and operated by fishermen across from a fish market.
The food at this restaurant was so
good and it was a hole in the wall type spot where not a lot of people would
even think to go there. Dr. Z and Mike had us all try the fried alligator so
that we could get the true Florida experience while we are here and then we
made our way to the everglades national park where we hiked around two trails and
listened to a lecture on nurse sharks in the Dry Tortugas. All in all it was a
great first day and I am so excited for day two.
