Salt and Vinegar

Salt and Vinegar

From time to time things will wash up on the beach whether it be little things such as water bottle wrappers or weirder things such as reptile lights. However, during the beach cleanup today I recognized that some items were kind of frequently showing up and it would not be something you would expect. I am not talking about plastic forks and spoons although they were frequent, I am referring to the foreign bottles of vinegar that would just be floating in the water. It was kind of cool to see them and all and it made me wonder why there just happened to be 3 or 4 and if there was a reason for this. However, after doing research there were not many things that came up for why exactly bottles of vinegar seem to be so popular.

The only reasons that make sense for vinegar being needed on a boat or on a beach trip in general would be for possible jellyfish stings and also for sunburn. Jellyfish stains are painful and there are ways to help relieve the pain including pee and vinegar. Vinegar is more effective for stings though and scientists actually recommend this more because vinegar has the right amount of acetic acid to instantly soothe the pain of the sting. Along with soothing jellyfish stings, vinegar can also soothe sunburn when being used as a compress. If i had vinegar I would test this out because we all know I need a sunburn soother. Anyway, similar to the reason vinegar works for jellyfish stings, vinegar also works for sunburn because it has the right amount of acetic acid in it. In fact, vinegar has the same if not very close amount of acetic acid as an aspirin does. While vinegar is very beneficial in these factors, it is not beneficial to the fact that it washes up on shore. The yellow squeeze bottles that had a foreign language on it that kept washing up today could have not appeared at all if they had been properly disposed of or if there were an alternative packaging so that they could be reusable bottles as opposed to single use bottles. Little things could be done to really help prevent trash from appearing in the ocean and washing up on beaches. Little things such as using reusable products that way you do not keep wasting items and resources. Ocean life of all kinds is suffering from our actions in many ways and if we all come together to eliminate plastic pollution and pollution in general then maybe we could save the ocean before it is too late
