Oh, the creatures you will see!

This past week was incredible! From reptilians to marine mammals you name it, we saw it. Snakes, lizards, gators, deer, fish, turtles, dolphins, birds. With in the week's adventure my sightings of new species had doubled. Spiny lobster, key deer, yellow rat snake, mangrove snapper, crevalle jacks, blue runners, stoplight parrotfish, green heron, frigates. The list is endless. This post it about what creatures you can expect to see in the different areas of the Florida Keys.

1. EVERGLADES: National Park

When I think of the everglades I think gator, gator, gator. And that is exactly right. Of course this is not the only opportunity to see these dinosaurs but possibly one of the highest probabilities you will encounter. The American Alligator has existed in North America for eight million years.

The big things aren't always the best. If you look closely, and notice some bright yellow-green mass on the side of the tree chances are you are observing a lubber. When frightened lubbers can secrete a foul smelling odor so be careful.

2. BIG PINE KEY: Blue Hole

Big Pine Key is well known for the local population of Key Deer. These deer in habitat most of the keys. The Key Deer at Blue Hole are very used to interactions with humans and will get very close if you are calm.

3. ISLA MORADA: Robbie's

At Robbie's you can meet the one and only Scarface tarpon.
Scarface is tha name of a tarpon who was rescued. The tarpon had a severe laceration to the mouth and was actually the fist trapan in recorded history to have a surgical procedure performed on.

4. THE REEFS: Cap't Slate's

Sargassum cannot be left out! During the dives and snorkels on the reefs make sure to keep an eye out for different types of algae. Sargassum might be the most common algae you find. If you look closely you may be able to spot a turtle. CAPT"N SLATE'S

All in all, this trip provided me with multiple opportunities to witness a new species. Keep an eye out and maybe you'll experience the same as me.
