During this recent Florida trip I was able to watch my
classmates snorkel along with me and
during this time I picked up on a few things that made the snorkeling experiencing
better then if I just went out by myself.
1.)
Do not were shiny watches, necklaces and other jewelry,
these can attract the attention of the Barracuda, which have been known to attack
snorkelers who where these shiny pieces of metal, because they think it’s a baitfish.
.)
Always use anti fog spray, or spit in your mask
to prevent the fogging up, You don’t want to spend the entire time trying to
clean your mask, so doing these things will make sure you spend more time in
the water looking at that Barracuda that recently chased you
.) Don’t over look breathing exercises: Being able
to breath longer obviously allows you to stay down longer, and there are exercises
you can do to help improve this.
6.)
Wrist straps for your Gopro: That would be one expensive lose, its important too have this because at any momment you could lose your grip because.
.)
When you see that huge barracuda don’t spaz out
in excitement remain calm and keep a safe distance
)
While diving down to deeper water its important
to remain vertical and kick your fins hard and fast, this will get you down to
the bottom quicker
)
Releasing C02 bubbles: helps control your
equilibrium and relieve the pressure
) Suck it up and pay the extra money for gear, you get what you pay for!

These are some great tips that can also be applyed to scuba diving! Popping your ears is such an important part when you get further down in the water because you can damange your ear drums. I once blew out my ear drum and it was not a fun experience! So when I’m doubt pop your ears out !
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I wasn't wearing anything shiny today when that barracuda swam right in front of me. Remaining calm definitely isn't any easy tip to remember when you see those teeth!
ReplyDeleteBarracuda are definitely some really cool fish, but can also be very intimidating at times as I learned during our first day of snorkeling. But as Katherine mentioned if you remember to stay calm aware of what you are wearing you can have a safe and amazing interaction with these apex predators.
