Tommy stop chasing lizards

So this is my first ever blog and it’s gonna be awesome! And i’de like to start by saying “hey camp sewee”! As my group of about 50 little friends back in Awendaw, South Carolina know, I’ve been working as a camp counselor for the last three weeks of summer. But this week Im spending my time in beautiful Florida on a wildlife and scuba diving adventure. What’s funny though is I’ve gone from being the camp counselor to being the camper. So now that I’m in the back of a bus driving to key west I’ve decided to talk about what I’ve learned about being a camper during my first day of camp.
The first thing that I learned very quickly is that when my professor is talking (aka my camp counselor) it’s super difficult to not turn around and chase the lizard that I can see moving in the grass behind me. (Yes I did chase the lizard, and yes I did get in trouble.) The second thing I learned is that even though I want to get a nice tan, when my professor says that I need to put on more sun block, I have to put on more sunblock. The third thing I learned is that it’s very important to pay attention to your group because you can get lost, which I did! Number four on my list is that when you do listen to your counselor you can actually learn a whole lot. Within one day I’ve already learned the identification of several Florida plants, animals, and insects that I will be encountering this week. Which in my opinion is so cool!! But the most important thing that I’ve learned already about being a camper is that your attitude is what makes camp fun! Even though I have to wake up early every morning, eat some not so great motel food for breakfast, and listen to the rules as long as I have an open mind and try to experience every activity we do I know I’m going to have an amazing week here in Florida!
